The Phantoms and Fiends of Edon are the oldest forces ever recorded on Planet Nine—creatures older than the Nine War, older than the armies, older than even the rune forests. They drift between the material and immaterial, half-spirit and half-memory. For centuries, Edon’s villagers whispered that these beings were born from the first great war.

Though often spoken of together, phantoms and fiends are not the same. The Phantoms are formless —shadows moving through fog and ruin. The Fiends are capable of touching the world or clawing at it. They are neither good nor evil, only relentless.

The most catastrophic example of their influence was their binding with Wish Blade. Long before he rose to challenge the Swamp Prince, before the legend and the wars, it was the Phantoms and Fiends who answered Wish Blade’s grief and rage with an offer: power for a soul. They did not trick him. They did not seduce him. They simply stood before him in silence, letting him choose. In that moment—his hand outstretched, the Blade offered to the darkness—Edon changed forever.

Even now, long after the war and Wish Blade’s sealing, the Phantoms and Fiends still roam the abandoned edges of Edon.
