SECOND NATURE

SECOND NATURE

Second Nature is one of the oldest and most unpredictable spirits ever recorded in the history of Edon. A being of pure volatility — brilliant, unhinged, mischievous, and terrifyingly intelligent — it drifts between realms like a living glitch. Some ancient texts call it a “forgotten god,” and others still describe it as a childlike force of chaos with the mind of a tactician. Whatever it is, Second Nature behaved like it knew the future long before anyone else did.

Do not confuse this entity with the army of Edon, who also call themselves Second Nature. The soldiers adopted the name because of the old stories — tales of a wild, unstoppable spirit that once intervened in mortal affairs. But they have never seen the being, and most aren’t even sure it truly exists. They carry the name out of reverence, fear, and superstition, believing that invoking it will give them the same unbreakable spirit the myth describes. The Second Hand, Wish Blade’s faction within the army, held that belief the strongest.

During the Nine War, Second Nature watched silently from the edges of reality. It never interfered with battles, never took sides, never stepped into the conflict directly — not until the very end. For 2,000 years it observed the rise and fall of armies, the suffering of Edon, and the sealing of Wish Blade beneath Lake Barren. And then, without warning or reason, it broke the seal — as if it had been waiting for that exact moment in history. Why it waited so long is a mystery that still haunts the Blade Chronicles.

Some say Second Nature freed Wish Blade because it wanted chaos to resume. Others insist it saw a fate no one else could, and released him to prevent something far worse. The truth is unknowable — and that’s what makes the being terrifying. Because the spirit of Second Nature still exists on Nine. It still wanders, watching, calculating, amused… and whatever it is planning, it hasn’t revealed yet.
