VLAD III

VLAD III

Vlad III, known to history as Vlad the Impaler or Vlad Dracula, was born in 1431 in Transylvania, the son of Vlad II Dracul. A prince of Wallachia, he became infamous for his ruthless military skill, unbreakable discipline, and striking intelligence. His preferred method of punishment — impalement — earned him a reputation as one of the most terrifying rulers of Eastern Europe, though many historians today argue that his brutality was deeply tied to the political chaos and constant invasions Wallachia faced. To his own people, he was often considered a harsh but necessary defender, resisting the encroaching Ottoman Empire with unwavering resolve.

After a turbulent rise to power, shifting alliances, and betrayal at the hands of Hungarian nobles, Vlad was reportedly imprisoned at Visegrád, a fortress overlooking the Danube. Historical records about this imprisonment are fragmented and contradictory — some claim he lived comfortably, others say he was kept in harsh confinement. But in our recovered lore, the truth is far stranger: there were no verifiable records because Vlad was not a prisoner at all. Hidden within the fortress was an entire sub-structure — part castle, part crypt — where Vlad lived as a sovereign in the shadows, ruling a small retinue and feeding on those who wandered too close.

It was here, in this fog-laden valley, that Wish Blade arrived — sent by Coglia. Wish Blade, weakened from his crossing into Earth and desperate to regain his life-force, sought Vlad not as an enemy but as a source of fuel. Vlad did not fear him; instead, he recognized a fellow warrior , and the two spent several years together, sharing battle philosophy, tactics, and stories of wars both earthly and otherworldly. Vlad fed, Wish Blade healed, and an unspoken alliance formed between monster and myth.

Though Vlad’s mortal historical record ends in 1476 during a final conflict for his throne, the lore suggests something different: that the stories of his death were fabricated, his body never recovered because he simply vanished into the night, long after Wish Blade departed to return home. In our myth, Vlad remains one of the few humans (or former human) to have stood beside Wish Blade at full power.
